Stay Healthy this Winter with Resveratrol and Pterostilbene Supplements

Stay Healthy this Winter with Resveratrol and Pterostilbene Supplements

You probably already scheduled your flu shot to make sure you stay healthy this winter and have stocked up on vitamin C to ensure your body is ready to fight the colds that inevitably spread in the winter.

Under normal circumstances, these preventive measures would be sufficient to keep you in good health during cold and flu season, but a new threat warning just issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests your immune system needs to have an extra boost this winter. The CDC report discusses that 2 million people in the United States develop infections caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria each year and 23,000 of these Americans die from these infections.1

Clinical evidence supports the use of Resveratrol and Pterostilbene to prevent infections

Fortunately, new research conducted by a team led by Adrian Gombart at Oregon State University’s Linus Pauling Institute indicates that Resveratrol and Pterostilbene, in the presence of vitamin D, significantly boost immune functioning.2 Gombart and his team investigated the effect of 446 different compounds on the cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (CAMP) gene in the presence of vitamin D. The CAMP gene creates different proteins that affect the immune system function.

After analyzing the data, Gombart and his colleagues discovered resveratrol and pterostilbene increased the expression of the CAMP gene, which in turn optimizes the functioning of the immune system. When asked about the significance of these findings, Gombart discussed this study provides additional evidence of the importance of nutrition in the body’s ability to fight infection.

Resveratrol and pterostilbene: Anti-microbial plant proteins function to fight infection

Resveratrol and pterostilbene belong to a class of compounds called stilbenoids, which are substances plants produce to protect themselves from infection. A comprehensive review of the 3700 studies research investigating the health benefits of resveratrol, an antioxidant found in red grapes, provides robust clinical evidence that resveratrol reduces your risk of developing cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease. Additionally, the clinical evidence shows that resveratrol also supports bone health and acts as an anti-inflammatory agent.3

According to Alternative Medicine Review, pterostilbene, a compound found in blueberries that has antioxidant properties has been used in Asia for centuries to treat heart ailments. As an antioxidant, pterostilbene decreases the effects of aging on your body. Modern clinical research supports the use of pterostilbene to decrease your cancer risk, control cholesterol, and reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes4.

Make sure you take resveratrol and pterostilbene to stay healthy this winter

With all the clinical evidence showing the multiple health benefits of resveratrol and pterostilbene, along with their immune boosting properties, it is essential that you include these nutrients in your daily health regime. So be sure to get a good resveratrol and pterostilbene supplement and stay healthy this winter.
